Day 784: 22nd February 2024 | You know you’re in Australia when a huntsman the size of your hand…

Crawls up your leg and onto your chest while driving at 100kms on the freeway 😲

I tried to grab it to get it off me, but it went on my head and really freaked me out. I had to call Juice to try and calm down so I could check my car since I was on the way to my doctor’s, which is where I am now. The appointment was meant to be at 2:45 p.m., so it’s running late 🙃

I’m lucky in a small way because I genuinely like spiders and know that huntsmans are harmless, but it still gave me a hell of a fright! 😱

I’m very lucky that I did not cause an accident trying to get into the emergency lane.

Anyway, here’s hoping for a more peaceful drive home 🙏

3:14 p.m.

Update: Before I got in my car to drive home, I thoroughly, or so I thought, checked my car all over using the torch on my phone. I could not find the spider anywhere. I had already checked, as well as one can, when parked in the emergency lane on the freeway, so I figured it must be gone.

I was parked in the undercover carpark. There is an outdoor one directly opposite the entry and exit to where I was. I only made it to the exit before I could feel all these cobwebs on me. Big ones that were not there when I got out of my car. Meaning only one thing. It was still in my car. I pulled straight into the car park in front of me and had barely parked before it crawled out from right next to me!

Thankfully, this time, I was able to catch it and release it. All because I felt the spider webs all over me.

I had also told my sister on a call what had happened so I let her know about the webs letting me know in time. Over an hour home in traffic mind you. But she responded with huntsman don’t make webs.

So, if that’s the case, I have no clue what it was. It looked harmless enough when the car was parked.

I managed to get a picture of it, but the quality is terrible. It might not seem as big in the picture, but believe me, it was enough to give me a huge fright, and I’m someone who recently saved a Redback and her egg sack because of how much I like spiders.

7:33 pm

PS: It turns out that all spiders make silk-like webs, and it was in fact a huntsmans according to everything my friends and I researched 🕷
